Student Voice and Leadership

The school believes in developing student voice and giving students the opportunity to shape and develop their own school life. Therefore, in order to recognise and nurture student's leadership potential, the school runs many programs to ensure that students can support their fellow school mates, build a fantastic school community, support the wider society and become leaders of the future. For students that show, or are willing to develop exceptional core values and leadership skills, they may be given a leadership position and the opportunity to serve the school as a sign of recognition for their responsible, polite and confident demeanour. The school offers several key leadership groups to develop student leaders; Prefects, Ambassadors, Library Prefects, Playtime Leaders and House Captains. Student Leaders will be expected to be exemplary students who embody the school values and act as role models for all students.

 

Head Boy & Head Girl 

The Head boy and Head girl are the most senior Prefects in the school and represent the school's entire student body. Two senior students will be selected by the Principal to represent the school and set the standards within the school community. 

The Head Boy and Head girl will be selected by the Principal through an interview process and the prefects selected will be part of the senior student leadership team. These students will represent student school development ideas at leadership lunches. The Head Boy & Girl will also represent the school at special events and will give speeches at the school graduation.

  2. Demonstrating exceptional manners, behaviour and demeanour
  3. Leading and developing prefects to become role models in all aspects of the school
  4. Promoting the school’s cares values and school ethos
  5. Demonstrating the epitome of Integrity, respect, service and caring attitudes.

 

Prefect Program

Every year a group of selected students are given the opportunity to represent the school as part of the student leadership team. As upstanding members of the school community, prefects act as role models to other students; they demonstrate exceptional behaviour and uphold the school’s core values, the ANCHORS principles and the Anchors Academy Code of Conduct. Prefects work hard not only to help maintain a disciplined and effective learning environment, but also mentor and support students in need.

 

Target Skill Development:

  1. Developing students’ public speaking skills
  2. Developing role models in terms of behaviour, manners and demeanour
  3. Setting high standards in terms of learning attitude, organisation and maturity
  4. Enabling students to cope and manage adversity and strengthen interpersonal and social skills
  5. Building self-confidence, self-motivation and collaboration among peers
  6. Promoting the school’s values and school ethos
  7. Demonstrating the epitome of integrity, respect, service and caring attitudes.

 

Library Prefects

Library prefects are selected to support student reading and provide more support to students. Library prefects will promote the school reading culture, monitor the school library and macs, recommend and write book reviews for students and will also help our youngest students learn to read through a 1 on 1 buddy system and book club.

  2. Developing book review writing skills
  3. Developing confidence to lead students and promote good reading habits
  4. Promoting the school’s values and school ethos
  5. Demonstrating the epitome of Integrity, respect, service and caring.

 

Head ambassadors

Two Head Ambassadors will be selected by Principal through an interview process and the head ambassadors selected will be part of the senior student leadership team. These students will represent student school development ideas at leadership lunches. The Head Ambassadors will also have the privilege host schools tours for distinguished guests and visitors.

 

Target Skill Development:

  1. Developing students’ public speaking skills
  2. Developing exemplary ambassador skills and etiquette
  3. Leading a team of ambassadors and developing their skills in terms of presentation, etiquette and manners
  4. Developing key life skills
  5. Promoting the school’s cares values and school ethos
  6. The epitome of Integrity, respect, service and caring.

Ambassador Program

The Student Ambassadors are a group of students from all forms who are dedicated to positively promoting Anchors Academy at all school events and public events held for prospective students and their families. They work on a voluntary basis and serve the school community by informing parents, visitors and guests about the school from the students’ perspective. Student Ambassadors are given the unique opportunity to receive training in communication skills, public relations, marketing and interpersonal skills.

 

Target Skill Development:

  2. Demonstrating student’s ability to converse in many languages
  3. Being able to translate for parents and cater for diverse parent needs
  4. Lead campus tours and visits from guests and parents
  5. Lead school events, open days and admission days

  7. Demonstrating the epitome of Integrity, respect, service and attitudes.

 

House Leadership - Heads of House

Heads of house are given the opportunity to represent the interests of their house members to the leadership team as well plan and prepare student activities and competitions. Heads of House will be voted in by their peers and will need to create, present and deliver a motivational speak to achieve this sought-after position.

  3. Planning and organising whole school activities

Play Leaders

The school cares in the emotional and social well-being of students inside and outside the classroom. Having said this, no matter how happy or resilient our students can be, all students face difficult times and challenges and they may find themselves lonely, upset or in need of further support. We have a dedicated team of student volunteers who support students in difficulty and help mentor them through difficult times whether a student needs someone to talk to, some reassurance or a helping hand through difficult situations.

  1. Developing students’ empathy through understanding and support
  2. Supporting students with social skills development
  3. Enabling students to build resilience, confidence and positivity
  4. Pairing with students who are shy and need guidance to interact appropriately with peers
  5. Acknowledging when students need support and taking initiative to help others
  6. Continuing to develop a caring and supportive student body and ethos
  7. Promoting the school’s cares values and school ethos
  8. The epitome of Integrity, respect, service and caring attitudes.
